Simplifying HIV Prevention for Adolescent Girls and Young Women

Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) remain at higher risk of HIV infection, in part due to limited access to clear and understandable information about HIV, prevention options, and treatment. Scientific and medical information is often complex, creating gaps in knowledge that affect health-seeking behavior. The Connecting Adolescent Girls and Young Women for HIV Prevention program responds to this challenge by promoting positive health outcomes for AGYW in their diversity in Masvingo Province to reduce new HIV infections and strengthen informed decision-making.

The program focuses on simplifying the science of HIV prevention by translating complex information into easy-to-understand, youth-friendly, and culturally relevant language. Through simplified materials and infographics, AGYW are supported to understand HIV, prevention options such as PrEP, PEP, injectable prevention, the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring, and condom use, as well as the importance of testing and treatment. By improving knowledge and access to information, the program empowers girls and young women to take control of their health and contributes to a broader development agenda for girls and women in Africa.
